“Sometimes,” Jem said, “our lives can change so fast that the change outpaces our minds and hearts. It’s those times, I think, when our lives have altered but we still long for the time before everything was altered– that is when we feel the greatest pain. I can tell you, though, from experience, you grow accustomed to it. You learn to live your new life, and you can’t imagine, or even really remember, how things were before.”― Cassandra Clare, Clockwork Angel
It’s strange really thinking about this, because I know it to be true. It’s that moment when someone you care deeply about or maybe thought you meant more to them leaves and you are stuck wishing for them to walk back through that door to you. But, they never do… you wish for the old days when it was easy. The truth is at some point you forget that they meant that much until you come across a picture and you look back with clear eyes. In some cases you realise that maybe it was for the best that they left and they never came back. In some cases you realise it wasn’t easier when they were there. I like to believe that everything leaves for a reason… it makes saying goodbye a little easier.
